As humans that we are, we are sometimes made to believe that
something’s, some jobs, positions or achievements are only meant for some set
of predestined individuals and not for you. The human species which is no doubt
the most intelligent of God’s creation has gradually become an object of
disdain and economic illusion to himself and his immediate surroundings. The
irony of life is that whatever we are in life is as a result of what we have
resolved in our heart to become. In other words, if you don’t see yourself as
the president, governor or first female leader of your country or organization,
it would never become a reality.
There is a thin line between what you are now and what you
could be, that line is called “THE LINE OF RESOLUTION”. You might say to
yourself or have the thought that you don’t have the necessary resources to be
who you want to be or where you want to be. The funny truth is that life is not
interested in you having the resources or not or whether you hail from a poor
or less privileged background with no hope of salvation. What you could become
or would become tomorrow is a product of whatever you are doing presently. Ask
yourself right now, ‘what is my resolution?’ do I want to carry on the baton of
failure, reproach and poverty that has been passed down to me? Do I feel
uncomfortable aspiring for heights greater than my historical or economical
background? If you are not comfortable with who, what and where you are
presently, then it’s time to take a positive turn. Start walking towards your
ambitions, start writing that book, start composing that song, enrol for that
course, start designing those wears. For those little sacrifices we make
towards our dreams and ambitions are investments which will definitely pay out
in the future yet unseen.
If you think you don’t have what it takes, then i will show
you a Ben Carson who struggled through school with the help of a single parent
to become a world renowned neurosurgeon. I will show you a Richard Branson who
dropped out of school at age 16 only to become a world renowned business tycoon
and founder of Virgin group, a multinational organisation with over 300 brands
of business extension. If you think you don’t have what it takes then i’ll show
you Aliko Dangote who while he was still in primary school would go and buy
cartons of sweets and start selling them just to make money not minding the
fact that he was born into a wealthy family, he refused to be a slave of money
rather he made money his slave by taking big risks. As of march 2013 his
estimated net worth is $16.1 billion USD. The list goes on and on.
A wise man once said “Death isn’t the greatest loss in life,
the greatest loss is what dies within us while we live” – Norman Cousins. You
may ask, how did they do it? How on earth did they scale through the challenges
that confronted them? Here’s what I think happened to them, they understood the
line of resolution and chose the other side which is the winning side, the
achieving side, the goal setting side. Making a positive life resolution makes
you see a solution in every problem. It makes you turn stumbling blocks into
stepping stones. They ignored their shortcomings and focused on their good
sides. Don’t be afraid of failure, it’s only a pointer to success. Leave your
comfort zone and create a niche for yourselves rather than waiting for a
miracle to come out of the blues as the manner of some is. Understand your
potentials and put it to work.
Do you know you have a potential? In physics, potential
energy is described as the energy that a body possesses due to its current
position, the initial energy of such bodies is usually zero because no work is
done in them, by them or through them. When such a body moves the energy value
increases relative to the amount of work done by such a body.
Physics has explained it all. We all have great potentials,
but until we put it to work we will not be rewarded. You have what it takes to
be the best in your field or career, but you will never move from potential to
kinetic energy without first having the motion set, you need to start moving,
start walking your talk, start acting like that person you want to be. Don’t
make wishes; wishes are only for lazy people rather set goals that would
positively affect your aspirations.
The hardest part is usually the part where you need to set
the motion, just like it takes a great deal of energy to move a body at rest,
it would take you all the inner strength, sacrifices and courage to set the
motion for your resolution. With consistency and discipline you’ll sooner or
later attain a constant speed. It’s usually a gradual process as Rome was not
built in a day, and a journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. So
therefore, dear reader make that resolution that will move you from where you
are to where you ought to be, from that person you are to that person you
desire to be.
In conclusion, here’s one of my personal quotation
“Life is like a mountain, you either climb it or remain where
you are. When you start climbing, sooner or later you’ll get to the top. If you
refuse to climb, the mountain will gradually grow bigger into a dream that will
never come true”
